York County Libraries will be collecting "Food for Fines" through Friday to encourage the return of overdue library materials and to give back to the community.The program allow library patrons to pay off fines for overdue materials with nonperishable food and personal hygiene items. For each donated item, $1 will be credited to outstanding fines. It will not cover the cost of lost or damaged materials.
Items collected will be donated to York County area food banks.
Donations also are being accepted at the York County Library in Rock Hill for the Rock Hill school district's "Back the Pack" program, which supplies weekend snacks for undernourished students. Individually packaged nutritious snacks such as fruit cups, breakfast bars, real fruit juice boxes, crackers and dried fruit will be collected.
All library patrons are encouraged to participate.York County Libraries are in Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Clover, Lake Wylie and York. Donations will also be accepted on the Bookmobile. Details, visit http://www.yclibrary.org/.
