Thousands of runners will take to the streets Saturday morning for Charlotte's annual Kangaroo Express Thunder Road Marathon and two associated events.
The three races will put participants on roadways in several of the city's signature neighborhoods and some of its most-traveled streets. Race organizers are urging the public, especially those planning holiday shopping trips to SouthPark and Cotswold, to allow a few extra minutes for possible traffic congestion.
The marathon, a 26.2-mile event, and the 13.1-mile Amica Insurance Half Marathon are scheduled to start at 7:45 a.m. in uptown. The Presbyterian Hospital Jingle Jog, a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) event, starts 30 minutes later. Up to 10,000 runners are expected in the events Saturday.
