Rock Hill leaders will gather today at City Hall to talk about the future of the Bleachery, a vacant downtown industrial site envisioned for rebirth as offices, shops and homes.Crews leveled much of the former Rock Hill Printing & Finishing Co. property during demolition work that started last summer. Some large buildings were left standing as potential homes for businesses.
As Rock Hill wrestles with double-digit unemployment, attracting jobs to the Bleachery site is an immediate priority, new city manager David Vehaun has said. City officials hope to land one or more tenants this year in the existing buildings.
Since closing in 1998, the Bleachery has sat mostly vacant as an eyesore between downtown and the western side of Winthrop University.
City Council members will hear about clean-up efforts and redevelopment options in a noon workshop in Room 373. The public can attend but will not be invited to speak.
